I find it interesting of the opposing view points from reading F1 Blog and watching FastLane Daily. The major theme I get out of it is “Auto Racing in America, Is it Entertaining?”
NASCAR: It is the one popular racing sport in the US and here is why I think it is popular. Oval Races are easy to watch live, you can see everything that is going on. There are fun Friday night and Saturday night races going on all over the country. Going to the race is also a social experience in small towns, Over time this translates in to following the pro guys. Going to Pro NASCAR Race is a mini vacation, beer fest, tailgate party, It is not just about the Racing.
What is it that Americans don’t like about other Racing?
Americans can not relate to a race or a how hard it is to be a good driver. It looks so easy, there is not enough of a challenge(in the Avg American’s eyes).
If they are slightly interested and you want to go see a race live, it pretty much sucks live. You really only get a view of one corner at a time and to go see another corner it is a 1 mile hike. There are no jumbotrons at most tracks, either.
There are not many hometown heroes to root for, Most Drivers come from other countries.
Weak Story lines. Ok I watch one race, I have no vested interest in any of the drivers or teams, I don’t really care who wins, why would I watch next week? This is where the announcers need to step up their game. (I need to give Credit the World Challenge for inserting the coin flip. I don’t like the coin flip, but I like that they were trying to spark things up) Our Announcers Assume two things, 1 The audience knows nothing about what they are watching and tries to explain everything, or 2 They assume we are true fans and know everything and we will always tune in. They need something more.
AMLS and Grand-Am, Your Races are too Long. If you had a major fan base already, 2.5 hours would be fine, but getting someone to commit 2.5 hours time to something they know nothing about is very hard.
I am a racer and a race fan and even I can’t watch a full race. I am looking at the racer’s aspect, I am looking at racing lines, passing techniques and pit strategy. I am also pressed for time to watch racing and do my own. I am watching F1, AMLS, Gram-am(both broadcasts),WRC, DTM, V8 Supercars, BTCC and WTCC (when I can get them). I will also watch Nascar and Indy cars when they are on a road course.

First off, school is really kicking my ass so that is taking a lot of my time
Projects:
I have registered quite a few new domain names, I’ve also consolidated most of my domain names to ad parking sites. I am only keeping active the sites that I am currently developing. Right now that is about four sites.
I’ve built a web based development platform in a rackspace cloud. This development platform will be used for web development in ruby.
I also have quite a few home improvement projects that I have videotaped and I still need to do the editing on.
I really don’t know what to say about this but I saw this recently on the news. It is an App that stops your kids from texting while driving. (can we get this for Adults too?) . It is called CellSafety According to the www.websafety.com website, it can do alot more than just stop them from texting. It can tell you thier location, block obscene sites and texts and more.
My questions is do the end users know they are being tracked/censored? If not what stops the stalker from putting it on thier Ex’s phone. They have a 30 day free trial that I might just have to run a few experiments with. I will let you know if I Find anything.
In a recent article BBC and Top Gear lost an injunction with the Stig, allowing him to release his tell all book about being the Stig for 7 year. The Stig is no other than Ben Collins, a 33 year old racing driver, but I guess a damn good one at that.
What Color will new Stig wear?
When the last Stig(who wore black) was revealed, he was immediately killed off in the TV series. He was replaced with the current Stig(who wore white). Now what color will the next stig be? I could guess that would go with a Silver/gray Stig or even a Red Stig, but only time will tell.
Some Say that he is stupid for giving up his job as the Stig so he can publish a book, and that no one will read the book as he killed the mystry of the Stig, all we know is that he is called Ben Collins….
Apple announced today that they are getting serious about the Set Top Box game and they want to be in your living room. They launched the new Apple TV. for $99.00. It is set to play Netflix and iTunes store purchases. The Apple Kool-aide drinkers will line up and buy this, but will it run over the competition? Since I do run my own set top box made out of an old laptop with a broken screen, I can give you some feedback on where this is heading.
What is in my set top box and what works.
My basic set top box is currently a Windows 7 laptop with the monitor cable going to my 40″ LCD TV. I Started running Window Media Center (WMC) with plugins for Boxee. I find myself pretty much only using Boxee and for one main reason…APPs. Boxee can be infinitely expanded with APPs and it is pretty easy to write your own apps. Boxee also has an online Account that lets me save links to videos on my PC and they show in my queue on my TV.

Maybe not in this version of the Apple Tv, but they will have to come if they want to compete.
BOXEE ‘s key features
Boxee can stream media from your computers on your network, it supports full 1080p, it can be customized to show what you want, The apps give you so much more content than the Apple TV.
Right now the Boxee software is the best of breed. Boxee will also be launching their own set top box in Nov 2010 called the Boxee Box. It looks cool, but the form factor will be awkward for most home theater setups.
Where is this all going?
Considering these set top boxes are just a processor and an internet connection, I am pretty sure they will all be pointless in 1-2 years. TV manufactures are already building these streaming services in to their higher end TV, It is just matter of time when they are already in all TVs and the Features we love about Boxee or Apple Tv (if you drink the Kool-Aid) are copied by the Set Builders.
