Since I have so many domains just laying around waiting for me to do something with them, one of my goals was to have them generate some type of revenue. I started by finding and build some sites designed for adsense by using Auto Content Generation. You can read more about this test HERE (Do Auto Content Generation and Auto Link Exchangers Work?). It ended up not really working and I decided my time was better spent on my new sites. You can read What I did with these sites HERE (Auto Content Generation and Auto Link Generation).

Finding a Home
It took me a while to seek out the best hosting plan. I ended up just going with my first choice. I am not here to say who the best host is, but I choose some one with very recognizable name, over great amounts of storage at a medium price point. I found everything that I was looking for in their Business package. It took a while to get set up but everything had been smooth sailing from there.

Making the Move
The Move has been pretty easy since this site (www.Danpereda.com) is the only working site. The other 10 sites were pretty easy to move. I simply logged in to my registrar and pointed my domains to my new name servers. I logged in to my new server and set up all the directories the domains will go to.

There is one site that is going to hard to move and that is this site. Danpereda.com is still on the old (slow) server. There are a lot of issues with this site and I am still contemplating all the changes to be made. I will update this post as I make the changes and move the site. My plans are to set up the blogging/cms system on the new server. Add all the plug-ins to the new system and test out some new plug-ins. I will also probably change the theme and the logo. I will then copy all the content from this site. I will test the new site. Then change the name servers with my registrar. Once all the DNS tables have propagated I will cancel the hosting with this provider.

NEXT - Have unused domains generate some type of revenue

The Web Site Overhaul Project Next - Moving to a new server.

I currently own 11 domain names. Out of that only one is actually working right now and the others are future projects or past projects that never finished. I have finally decided that I have to do something with these sites. Many of the sites are incomplete due to lack of knowledge and time to be able to complete what is/was necessary. I have one major project in the pipeline. One that I believe in so much that I am not taking a chance. I have eliminated my time/knowledge constraints by paying/outsourcing the work to someone that has the knowledge.

To get ready for this new project I have initiated a massive overhaul of all my web properties. I have my project outline below

Web Site Overhaul Project
Overview: The goals of this project is to do the following:
• Move to a more reliable server
• Have unused domains generate some type of revenue while the overhaul is in progress
• Unify the platforms that the sites Operate on(CMS)
• Build out the 2 main sites.
• Learn and Test new CMS, plugins, and other tools.
• Improve SEO of the main sites
• Build out the secondary (unused) domains.
• Improve SEO of the secondary domains

Next - Moving to a new server.

When is it time to revamp and overhaul your website or sites?

These are some of the questions I recently asked myself;
What is the purpose for my website(s)?
What are my measurable goals for the sites?
Is my site fulfilling its purpose and reaching the goals?
Is my site up to date in both content and technology?
Would a revamp / overhaul improve my the website attaining it’s goals and/or serving it’s purpose?

After looking at the answers to these questions I decided that it was time for a change. Here is my Web Site Overhaul Project

Last Month I was testing some Auto Content Generation and Auto Link Generation tools to help drive traffic to some of my sites that are just laying around doing nothing. (You can read the post here.) The test was a failure. My websever wouldn’t allow for some of the tools function and I was putting too much time in and not seeing any results. My time would have been better spent developing real content for the sites and that would have drove real visitors. In the end I ended up just “Parking” the sites with SEDO . They have been there for just a week and have generate 76 hits and 10 cents in profit. I wont be rich, but I may pay for the names in a year.

The Domain names at SEDO are:
http://www.keepright.us
http://www.phonefuse.com
http://www.reelspicy.com
http://www.trainingwave.com
http://www.trainingwave.info

The “.info” and the “.us” domains have no hits.

The online education market is increasing by “33% a year” according to Salary.com . This expansion is due to the many opportunities that the Internet affords. Earning a degree was once a pipe dream for the stay at home mom with 3 kids or the rural farm worker, but a degree is now available to anyone with an Internet connection. With this increased access also comes increased risk, with so many colleges offering online degree programs there are also just as many crooks offering you quick and easy programs that take your money and leave you with nothing of value. Choosing the right degree program can open new doors, increase your income or just allow you to fulfill a lifelong dream. How do you avoid the crooks and what will an online degree be worth when you have completed it?

If it seems to good to be true it probably is. Most of the scams can be broken in to two categories; the “Degree Mills” and “This is way to easy to be college”. The Degree Mill is very simple, you send them some exorbitant amount of money and they mail you a very nice official looking piece of paper with your name on it that say you have a degree. Degree mills are worthless. You receive no education from them. Do not go looking to just buy a degree, you need to earn it. The other scam is what I call “This is way to easy to be college”. You may have seen spam email from these so called colleges. They generally advertise earning a degree in some radically quick time frame (6 months) or only taking a small number of classes. If you were to go to one of these schools they still require some exorbitant fee for what you learn and the classes require little or no work/study. In the end your degree may still be worthless. So how do you choose a degree program that will be worth something?

When choosing an online degree program make sure it is accredited by a sanctioned agency. Accreditation helps ensure that the curriculum and the instructors are of high caliber and afford you the best learning opportunity. Accreditation also add more vale to your degree in the eyes of employers and if you wanted to use that degree as a stepping stone you next degree. You still need to be cautious all Accreditations are not equal you should make sure accreditation agency is recognized. Who are the recognizers? “Washington, D.C.-based Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a private nonprofit national organization, and the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)” From jobs.aol.com .

When researching about an online program U.S News & World Report suggest the following :
Don’t limit your research to classified ads or survey the Web in search of the right course or program.
See if the online school is accredited and by whom. Check to see if the accrediting agency is officially sanctioned. Lists are available from several accrediting organizations.
Check with licensing boards and professional associations to see if the program delivers an acceptable level of training.
Call or write the Better Business Bureau and the attorney general’s office to make sure the school is operating legally in a state and to see if anyone has filed a complaint.
Find out if the school is connected to an established, reputable parent company.
If you intend to transfer any online credits earned to another college or university, early on check with that institution to see if they accept those credits.
Ask about the faculty? Who teaches the courses? What degrees do they have? What is their area of expertise?
Refer to the published guides of online, correspondence and other distance delivered courses.

What value will your online degree have? The value of an online degree depends on a person’s particular situation. The greatest value will depends on how you will use the degree. According to Howstuffoworks.com industries like Internet/New Media, Technology, and High Tech are the highest supporters of an online degree. While an online degree holds the least value in Medicine, Law, and Health Care/Bio Tech industries. Even tho “Thomas L. Russell of North Carolina State University, did studies that revealed that there is little if any difference in the quality of education received through online distance learning versus traditional classrooms.” - Howstuffworks.com

With this mixed result; an online degree is still a great option for those that have little other choices or those who just don’t like traditional classrooms.
For example: “The cost benefit of online programs lies mainly in the opportunity costs saved, as most students are able to keep their jobs while taking online classes.” - Salary.com
“Tonya Gordon ended up with her dream job, doubled her salary, and feels challenged and fulfilled every day. This all happened within a few months of receiving her MBA online through Texas Woman’s University (Denton, Texas)” - jobs.aol.com.

Without a doubt the popularity of online degrees is exploding. The mass adoption of this form of learning will cause the less accepting industries to value the online degree equal to a traditional degree. The online degree requires the student to be more aware of the school and degree they choose to ensure that it will have value to them. Online accredited degrees have value and will improve your marketability in the job market and can increase your salary range.

Most of my post get started on Saturday afternoon at a Panera Bread. This normally cause It is the only free time i have or I dont want to do anything I am supposed to be doing. I dont always finish and post on Saturdays, but it is the day i start thinking about my posts. I dont know why i always go to Panera. their food is good but not great, i guess i just feel comfortable here next to their fireplace.

I have been reading a lot on Business start-ups. I am sure I want to start my own business, but I am not sure what. I have owned my own business in the past and that turned out not to be as profitable as I had hoped. I learned ALOT from that venture, but I will tell you I am less of a risk taker now. I am really looking for a business that is a sure thing. My last business was a New idea and I spent most of my time and money trying to educate people about it. I dont want to do that again. I want something that people already have a need for and know about. I currently do not have a ton of money to invest and I currently travel full time, so looking for the right business is going to be a long and hard process.

I have always shied away from an online or tech business, but I have been reading about some simple ideas that are not earth shattering or ground breaking, but are making million dollar revenues. i am working at learning Ruby and ajax and I am gonna try to copy some of these successful web ventures. I view it as a win win, If I am successful i will make some money, if I am not i will have learned a new skill and can showcase my talents by the web sites that i have built.

I have to post something, but I have been so busy that I have not found the time.

What have I been doing since I am not blogging?

I have been using my bit little free time to try and learn Ruby on rails, Ajax on rails and some advanced asterisk and some Linux stuff. I am trying to do all this so I can really make my other site PhoneFuse.com do some cool things. I think some of you tech heads will really like what I gonna give you for free.

Coming Up
I have about 30 drafts of blog posts that I want to finish(I really haven’t started anything but the title). Many of them travel reviews.
I want to add podcasts to this site
I have a great approach to call center management that I want to write down and get out to the world.
and much more…

I will be traveling much of next week, so who knows what I will get done. I will mayby get a couple of the blog posts started.

Drop me a comment of what your really interested in hearing about. Blogarama

I currently own 7 domains and they are spread out across different servers and hosting providers. Some sites are for fun and some sites are new business ideas that I am exploring. I have way to many topics I am trying to cover and fun, business and personal ideas are getting posted on the wrong web sites, or is limiting what I can do with the website. I have consolidated my hosting and servers down to two locations. I have a front end hosting provider for all my sites and a separate back end server to handle some complex functions. Below is an outline of my plans for my sites.

DanPereda.com - This is will be my personal site. It will be my personal Blog and Also a platform for my writing.

Shoreperformance.com - This site will be revamped to become the front face of my business again. Right now the front end is just my blog and the back end runs some major surveys and data recording.

Phonefuse.com - This site will be my test platform to work of some new Asterisk PBX goodies. It will also replace the back end for the Voipfordummies.com site that I currently own, but I am being forced to transfer it to Wiley Press.

Voipfordummies.com - This site is being eliminated and transferred to Wiley Press (the people that own the for dummies trademark)

Pereda.org - I hope to work more on this site and get it to become the family website that I had always meant for it to become.

TheMillionaireSociety.com - This is my Prosper group. I have not had time to really open this site or even start my group.

ReelSpicy.com - This was the name of my boat, but I no longer have the boat. I will come up with something to put here. till then I will just point it to one of my other sites.
